5th Haifa International Flute Competition, 2002
First place:
Britta Jacobs, Germany, born 1974
Currently Principal Flutist of the opera house in Kassel and studies with Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht at the music school in Hannover Ms. Jakobs played at the Chamber Orchestra of Cologne, the European-Union-Youth Orchestra, "Unten de Lindrn" Opera in Berlin and in the Sazlburg Festival.
Ms Jacobs won first prize in the "Youth Music Competition" of Germany, second prize in the "International Chamber Music Competition in Unna, Germany and special awards at International Flute Competition in Markneukirchen, Germany.
She received Artist Diploma "cum laude" and has previously studied with Pierre Yves at the Conservatoire National Superiuer in Paris, with Prof. Andras Adorian in Cologne and in the orchestra-academy of the Berliner Staatskapelle with Daniel Barenboim.
Second Place:
Naama Neuman, Israel, born 1983
Currently Principal Flutist of the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra ,serving in the IDF as part of the Distinguished Musician program and studies with Yossi Arenheim.
Ms. Neuman is Past Principal Flutists of the Haifa Youth Symphony Orchestra and the International Orchestra of Matan.
She played at the Casals Festival and in the festival in Niece, France and was the recipient of numerous scholarships from the America- Israel Cultural Foundation.
Third Place:
Jun Kubo, Japan/USA, born 1977
Currently Studies with Bradely Gamer at the University of Cincinnati. Former student of Julius Baker, Alan Marion and Raymond Guiot.
Ms. Kubo played with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, The New World Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, the New York Youth Orchestra and the Julliard Symphony. She has played recitals in Cincinnati, Tokyo, Yokohama , Carnegie Weill Recital Hall and for the Emperor & the Empress of Japan at the Kennedy Center.
Ms. Kubo won the Leonard Bernstein Concerto Competition, the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, the Leonardo de Lorenzo International Competition in Viggiano, Italy and the Julliard Pre-College Orchestra soloists. She played at the Yamaha Festival, the Pablo Casals Festival, the Prague International Music Festival and the Zurich International Music Festival.
Best performance of the Israeli Composition:
Robert Buchwald, Germany, born 1979
Currently studies with Prof. Moshe Epstein in the Academy of Arts Hamburg.
Mr. Buchwald has been Principal Flutist of the Brandenburg Youth Orchestra, Principal Flutists of the Berlin Youth Orchestra and Principal Flutist of the German-Scandinavian Youth Orchestra. He won the 3rd prize in the German Competition for Young Artists 'Jugend Musiziert" and special award from the Academy of Music Rheinsberg.
